DIY It – Flamingo and Swan Pool Float Ornaments

filed under

Flamingo and swan pool floats were all the rage this summer, and since it still feels like summer here in Texas, I am just going to keep those summer vibes going with a few DIY pool float ornaments. To be honest, I don’t have any real pool floats, but now I can join in on the fun with these ornaments on my tree instead.

The Supplies:

I love it when the supply list is that short! Begin by rolling your white and pink clay into long log shapes. Then cut into 3″ pieces and form into the swan and flamingo heads and necks.

Roll out a small amount of black for the beaks and eyes of the flamingo and orange and black for the beaks and eyes of the swans. Gently push the clay together to create one piece.

Use extra pink to create the flamingo tails and white to create the wings of the swans.

Place all the pieces on a baking sheet and bake at 275°F for 15 minutes. Let cool.

While the clay is baking, spray paint your ornaments white (for the swans) and pink (for the flamingos). Once the paint has dried and the clay is cool, use a hot glue gun to attach the bird pieces to the ornaments. Then just add your hooks and hang them on your tree.

This same process can easily be repeated to create all the pool float animals from unicorns to toucans. Then all you need is a mini inflatable pool to use at the base of the tree in place of the tree skirt, a few paper umbrellas, and some palm leaves and your Christmas tree can truly bring back that summer feeling.
