Craft It – A Felt Fringe Easter Basket

filed under

Have you heard that fringe is the next big thing? Well, I am not sure if that is completely true, but I am obsessed either way. The easiest way to take on the fringe trend is by using felt to make your fringe. Since it doesn’t fray and comes in a plethora of colors, it is easy to create your own fringe to adorn pillows or curtains. Today I will show you how to create a cute fringe Easter basket from hand-cut felt fringe. It is sure to make your little one the trendiest little Easter egg hunter in the yard, or if you can get away with it, keep it for yourself and stuff it full of your favorite candy and craft supplies from the “Easter bunny”. Either way, you need to make this adorable basket now!

See?! Isn’t just so adorable? Lets get into the how-to now shall we?

The Supplies:

  • 5 sheets of 9″ by 12″ felt in your choice of colors from the craft store (or Etsy has even more colors options)
  • Plain felt Easter basket (one with a design is fine because we will cover it up. I used this one from Target.)
  • Hot Glue and scissors

Begin by cutting your felt sheets into 2″ strips, then fringe cut the felt. I just used a regular pair of scissors and cut the fringe about 1/8 to 1/4″ thick leaving about 1/2″ on top uncut. Just look at all that pretty fringe!

Now that you have your fringe all cut, start at the bottom and slowly hot glue your first layer of fringe on the basket base.

Once you get back to the beginning, cut your felt off and start a new layer about 1/2″ up from the first. Continue like this until you reach the top of your basket.

Now wasn’t that simple?  I love the ombre look that I made here, but this could easily be adapted using whatever colors you like. While my daughter has already claimed this basket, I think I may need to make another one for myself. I could totally get away with using this as a purse right? Right?!
