DIY It – #butfirstcoffee Costume

filed under

Today I am continuing my “Instagram worthy” Halloween costume series, with this simple “but first, coffee” costume. I know that I cannot seem to scroll through my feed without coming across some photo of a cup of coffee. Whether it is a perfectly staged top down shot on a bed with magazines, and the perfect breakfast in bed meal or this hilarious Oh Happy Day photo, #butfirstcoffee is a phrase that will forever be ingrained in my brain. And now you can to wear it too! Hahaha!

I decided to replicate my favorite Ban.do travel mug for this costume and not only did it turn out cute, but came together in about an hour. Plus, this is the perfect costume to pair with your yoga pants and messy bun. Talk about a winner!

Supplies:

  • 2′ by 4′ piece of foam core (I found mine at a local art supply shop)
  • Hot pink acrylic paint ( I used Dragon Fruit Americana Acrylic by Deco Art)
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Pencil
  • X-acto knife
  • Paint brush
  • Ribbon long enough to fit around your neck
  • Glue or packing tape to hold on the ribbon
Begin by cutting out the travel mug shape from your foam core using the x-acto knife.
Next, paint the top lid with the hot pink paint. It may require a coat or two of paint.
Finally, write out your #butfirstcoffee message with your pencil and then fill it in with the black acrylic paint. I just referenced the actual Ban.do mug when writing my letters, but it’s just a costume, so don’t worry if they aren’t perfect!
Once your coffee mug is painted and dry, attach the ribbon to the back using glue or tape.
Now it’s time to grab your favorite coffee mug, don your costume, and proudly show off your messy hair, don’t care attitude. Because everyday is a #butfirstcoffee day!
