DIY It – Colorblocked Abstract Mirrors

filed under

You guys! I completely forgot to share these mirrors with you! I got the
idea after looking through a home decor magazine a year ago, but their
price was way too high, so I decided to DIY them for cheap out of a few
basic craft supplies. You are seriously not going to believe how easy
they are to make!

Supplies:

Begin by laying your vinyl over the mirror and indenting the vinyl slightly to give you a rough cut line.

Cut
slightly outside this line and then peel away the back of the vinyl and
adhere it to the mirror. Use the scissors to cut away the extra vinyl
along the edge of the mirror. Either leave the mirror like this with one
color, or layer a second color on top at a different angle.

Once all the vinyl is applied to your DIY mirrors, add a small amount
of glue to one side of the interior hoop of the embroidery hoop set.

DIY Color Blocked MirrorsAdhere
the hoop to the top of the craft mirror and let dry. If excess glue
squirts out from under the wood hoop, use a damp paper towel to wipe up
the excess. Once dry, your DIY mirrors are ready to hang up using double
sided wall mounting tape.

Now wasn’t that easy?! And I am so in love with the color blocked look!

They have a little touch of color but the DIY color blocked mirrors still bounce
around the light and give the space a renewed spring time look. If color
isn’t your thing, you can always stick with a silver or gold vinyl for a more muted look.

Or if you want even more color, paint the wood embroidery hoops before gluing them on for a color pop edge!

Hi! I LOVE this project. What size mirrors did you use? Also, do you recommend a brand for the vinyl? I'm looking on amazon and there are a million options.

This is the vinyl I used: http://www.joann.com/cricut%23174-12x12metallic-adhesive-foil-sampler-fairytale/15249758.html

As for the mirror size, I think I used 14", 10", and 8".
