Bake It – Bottle Brush Tree Sugar Cookies

Yes, you read that title right! I am taking my love of bottle brush trees to the next level with these simple bottle brush tree sugar cookies. While they may look complicated, all you really have to do it be able to pipe a line. No fancy tools or advanced cookie decorating techniques needed! I even tried my hand at making a little video to show you just how easy they are to make. So follow along for the tutorial and recipe for the best no spread sugar cookie cutout dough.

I love theses cookies so much! And they are definitely in the category of almost too pretty to eat. They are like, really pretty.
To make your own you will want to make up the sugar cookie dough below and use a simple tree cookie cutter to cut out the tree shapes. Then bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes until the edges of the cookie just start to turn golden. Remove from the oven and let cool.
While the cookies are cooling, make up your royal icing (this recipe is my go to). Divide the icing into several small bowls and use food coloring to make your colors. My tip here is to use only about a drop of color to get the nice pastel look or more for a richer color. I used lime green, teal, hot pink, orange, and yellow to create all the colors you see here. Just mix orange and pink to get the coral color, and lime green and teal to get the mint blue (you only need about 1/4 of a drop of each, so don’t add too much food color!). You can also keep the icing white and make white frosted bottle brush trees instead for a super clean look.
Once all your icing is mixed up, you can add the icing to piping bags with tips, or use parchment paper cut into triangles to form a piping bag. I show you how in my video below.
Then it is time to ice your cookies! Pipe a line down the middle and then draw lines starting at the sides and going down to the center line. When your whole cookie is covered, sprinkle on a bit of colored sugar and your done!

Best Sugar Cookie Cutout Recipe

  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 2 Eggs (at Room Temp)
  • 3 Tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 5 Cups all purpose flour

Cream the butter and sugar together for 1 minute. Add the eggs and mix another 30 seconds – 1 minute. Add the vanilla and salt and just combine. Then add all the flour to the bowl and cover with a towel. Start on low and gently mix your dough until it just comes together. You don’t want to over mix the cookies. The best part is there is no need to chill this dough. So once it is mixed, you can being rolling out your cookies!
