This past weekend I stumbled upon the cutest ceramic pumpkin dishes, and in true Kailo Chic fashion, I just had to give them a colorful makeover. These ceramic dishes were initially made for baking everything from creme brulee to mini baked ziti, but after the addition of some paint, they made the cutest colorful fall candy dishes ever!
This is another one of those tutorials where there is not much technique involved. The most difficult part is choosing which colors to use!
Begin with these plain white ceramic pumpkins from World Market (they are only $5 each!), a few colors of acrylic craft paint, and a gold paint pen. Then just paint the lids one color, the bottoms another, and use the gold for the stem. Let dry, then fill with your favorite fall candy. I am not that big into candy corn, so chocolate had to suffice!
I ended up creating my own paint colors by mixing a few to get just the right hues. After a bit of trial and error (I originally painted these navy and turquoise and hot pink and peach and it just did not look good!), I went back with more subdued hues of mustard yellow, mint, light pink, and coral pink. It just goes to show you that the color selection really is the hardest part!
I love these colorful pumpkin dishes and while the may not scream fall to most, they are just perfect for me. So, what colors would you paint yours?

Haha! I got these to make some festive candles, but I am for sure going to paint them now. I love how these turned out.

These are adorable! I just bought my pumpkins from world market 🙂 did you put a top coat over the paint, like modge podge or other gloss/sealant?

Yay! The multi surface craft paint by itself worked great. No need to seal it!

Do you think this would be alright with the same pumpkins you used for the mantel and gold splatter? We don't have a World Market around where I live.

If you can find a hollow pumpkin, you could likely add a bowl inside it to hold the candy.
