DIY It – Pom Pom Trimmed Napkins

filed under

“Put a pom pom on it”: the official craft motto of Summer 2016. Well, either that or “put a tassel on it”, because pom poms (and tassels) are everywhere. I think everything is improved with the addition of colorful little fluff balls or tassels. Today, I will show you how to pom-pomify another home decor staple: the cloth napkin.

This is a really simple craft that anyone can do, no matter your crafting skill-set. Follow along for the full tutorial.

The Supplies:
  • Plain cloth napkins (I love to get mine at World Market because they have a great assortment of plain colored napkins)
  • Pom Pom Trim in several colors (I used 4 different colors of 1″ pom pom trim that I found on Etsy)
  • Fabric Glue

Once your supplies are together, simply measure one end of the napkin and cut the pom pom trim down to that size. Next, use fabric glue to attach the rows of pom pom trim starting at the bottom edge of the napkin and working your way up.

Once you’ve added all the trim, let the napkin set for 24 hours so the glue can dry fully. Now your napkins are ready for action!

I also made a simple, gold napkin ring from a piece of gold-plated jewelry wire. See! Everything’s better with a little pom pom fringe! And gold! Always with gold. Time to pom pom all my towels! (okay, maybe that’s too much).

    These are beautiful!
I've never used fabric glue. Do the pompoms hold well after a wash?

As long as you use washable fabric glue, they should. You can always tack them down by hand with a needle and thread or a machine if you want.
