DIY It – Brushstroke Glasses

Have you ever looked at your glassware and said “Hmmm. Needs more color!”? Maybe you have, maybe you haven’t, but this is a fun tutorial on how to use permanent vinyl to really get your glass party-ready (or cabinet-ready if you don’t have a party planned). In a few easy steps, you’ll put some sass back in that glass! (Sorry, couldn’t resist).

The Supplies:

  • Permanent Outdoor Vinyl in your choice of colors
  • Drinking Glasses
  • Vinyl Cutter
  • The photo below, which can be used in your vinyl cutter to cut the brushstroke shapes. This is sized for regular small tumbler glasses, but feel free to adjust the size as needed for the glassware you use.

Begin by cutting out several pieces of the brushstroke art in each of your colors. If you don’t have a vinyl cutter, you can just use a pair of scissors to cut random triangles, and zig-zag pieces out of your vinyl for a more 80’s-tastic look. Or you could just beg a friend to use their vinyl cutter for a few minutes to get your pieces cut.

I trimmed up my cut pieces and removed the excess vinyl so that you could see the pieces cut, but this step isn’t necessary. These pieces are so small that you don’t need transfer tape to apply
them. Once they are cut, you can simply remove them from your vinyl backing and
place them in a random pattern on your glasses, overlapping as needed.

Now that your glasses are decorated, press firmly all around to make sure that the vinyl is well adhered. The permanent outdoor vinyl will stay on through use and hand washing, but you shouldn’t put these in the dishwasher.

The fun thing is that you can decorate these for your party or just everyday use in the colors that work best for you. I went with shades of blue and gold because those are some of my favorite colors and look how pretty the blues look against the orange mimosas!

Looking for a less permanent solution for a brunch, dinner, party, or bridal shower? Just use this vinyl instead and after your party is done you can remove the vinyl and have your plain glassware back. This would be a great way to coordinate your glassware to your party’s colors with out having to be stuck with those colors forever.
