Craft It – DIY Polka Dot Plates

filed under

I recently was introduced to the wonders of food safe ceramic paint pens and I have been coloring up a storm. I have tried my hand at several DIY hand painted plate designs, but the easiest and by far the cutest are these multi colored DIY polka dot plates and bowls.

See how adorable?! The best thing is that pretty much anyone can recreate these. Wouldn’t these look just amazing at a colorful Easter brunch? I think I am in love! Follow along below for the details on making your own polka dot dishes.

The Supplies:

DIY Polka Dot Plates using Ceramic Paint Pens

Begin by using your colors of ceramic paint pens ( I used orange, yellow, teal, green, purple, and pink) to color small polka dots in a random pattern on the bowl or plate, let dry, and then bake according to the directions on your paint package.  Be sure to put your dishes in a cold oven, then let it heat up and bake the dishes for the specified time and at the specified temperature, and then turn off the oven and let the dishes cool slowly in the oven.

Once they are baked, they are food safe and ready to use! How awesome is that?

I love the way the multi colored polka dots look with my new gold flatware. It definitely has me feeling all spring like! What do you think? Would you stick with polka dots or try your hand at a more complex design? Feel free to share your creations with me on Instagram by using the hashtag #MyKailoChic. I can’t wait to see what you create!

How long do they last if you wash them in a dishwasher ?

Unfortunately I don't know. I have only hand washed them. I don't believe putting them in the dishwasher is recommended.

Did you find these markers in a kit? I only see them individually on Amazon and most of the colors are $11/marker!
