Easy DIY Gold Rimmed Cocktail Glasses

I don’t know about your house, but the gold trend is alive and well in casa de Kailo Chic. When I was younger, I used to make fun of my mom’s gold lust.  I was all about silver back then. But, tastes change, kids grow up to be fashionable adults, and we frighteningly become our parents.
One of my all-time must haves has been gold rimmed high ball glasses. But, those can be quite pricey. I decided to make my own because nothing says ‘high-class drinking’ like gold rims.
Using some inexpensive glasses I picked up at HomeGoods and gold Martha Stewart craft paint, I was able to get the look for less. For this project, you’ll need glasses, Martha Stewart Acrylic Craft Paint in Gold, and some alcohol (not for drinking yet!). I used vodka because it’s what I had on hand, but rubbing alcohol works too.
First, you’ll use an alcohol dampened paper towel to clean the rim of the glass where you want the paint to go.
Next, put some of your paint on a paper plate or other disposable surface, and gently twist your glass upside down in the paint, making sure to get the paint uniformly around the edge of the glass.
And that’s it! Seriously, just let it dry upright for about 3 weeks so that the paint can cure and you are all set (yes, I know that’s a long time; while you wait, you can drink out of coffee mugs or a wine glass to feel haughty).
I love the way they look, and the paint has held up extremely well. Just remember to let them cure for all 3 weeks! No cheating!
Look how cute they look with a summery cocktail! Drink responsibly!

Unfortunately the gold didn’t last. I ended up buying a few gold rimmed ones from Home Goods to replace them.

Just a heads-up, you may be slowly giving yourself metal poisoning. This stuff is not good safe and alcohol is a fairly powerful solvent. This is from the Plaid (they make the “Martha Stewart” brand paint) website:
